Safety Survey Letter

Over the last year, the Terrell Fire Marshal's Office began analyzing historical data on insurable loss fires within the City of Terrell.

From August 1, 2015, to August 1, 2017, the Terrell Fire Department responded to a total of 24 property loss structure fires. Of the structure fires responded to, 75% of the fire loss was single-family residential units.

In an effort to decrease the amount of residential fire loss and potential loss of life the Terrell Fire Department will begin conducting fire safety surveys at all unoccupied single-family residential structures who establish new City of Terrell water accounts prior to occupancy. This service is free and will begin on January 1, 2018, in accordance with City Ordinance 2713, adopted October 10, 2017.

Residents who reestablish service after having their water service disconnected for nonpayment are not eligible for this service. The service is only for initial tenant occupancy and will be conducted prior to occupancy.

TFD is also installing free smoke detectors as well as free carbon monoxide detectors to residents who apply and meet the requirements for the program for as long as supplies last.

Contact the Terrell Fire Marshal's Office at 972-551-6651 for questions about the safety survey program, or access to the detector applications and program rules.
