Sewer/Wastewater Collection & Treatment

The City of Terrell's wastewater collection system transports wastewater from homes and businesses through over 650,000 feet of underground pipes, ranging from 6 to 36 inches in diameter. This wastewater is then treated at our permitted Kings Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant, which has a capacity of 4.5 million gallons per day.

The Industrial Pretreatment Office, also at this location, oversees Industrial Permitting and Discharge Requirements into the sewer system. Pretreatment also monitors grease traps throughout the City sewer system.

Sewer Division

The Sewer Division operates and maintains the City's sewer mains which includes preventative maintenance:

Inspections: crews regularly check manholes for broken or missing parts.

TV Inspection of Sewer Mains: camera inspections are used to locate blockages and other sewer related problems such as leaks, grease, roots and other debris.

Jet/Vacuum Cleaning: sewer lines are cleaned with a high-pressure water hose to remove blockages (grease, roots or other debris). The debris is then removed with a high-powered vacuum.

How to Prevent a Sewer Backup

Remember the 3 Ps.

The toilet should only be used for three things; Pee, Poop, and toilet Paper.

Wipes - even "flushable" wipes - belong in the trash and should not be flushed down your toilet.
